Watch Out for Common Tree and Shrub Pests

Don’t let a lovely tree or shrub rot away because of insects or disease! We’ll help you catch the problem in time and apply effective remedies that will save your trees and shrubs from the three most common pests.

• Spider mites – If you see brown, red, or purple spots on the underside of leaves, you may have spider mites. They also leave webbing. Insecticides are effective.
• Bagworms – This is a pest you want to target early, because once they establish their large webby colonies, insecticides become less effective. Keep an eye out from June through August especially.
• Aphids – These tiny green insects love to dine on new leaves on plants, leaving them stunted and yellow. Insecticidal soaps are effective against them, as is wiping the plants down with mild soap.
